planning a very fancy affair

Adeline is turning three next month!  Being the sweet fancy girl that she we are throwing an all girls “Fancy Nancy” inspired soiree (with attempts to try and stay away from all the trademarks).  So fun! Imagine all you can do with purple, pink, red and feathers – my head is overwhelmed already.  Not quite sure what I’m going to end up doing yet but I found a few inspirations online . . .

1. Fancy Nancy Tee – for the colors

2. Red ballet shoes – yes please, Adeline would LOVE this (so much fancier then her worn plain pink ones)

3. Feather boa dessert table – I need to figure out how to do this!

A Fiery Fiesta – an 18th birthday surprise

This past weekend I helped my sister throw a surprise 18th birthday party for my oldest niece Kasia (yes, we share the same name). We wanted a party that would combine my nieces casual yet fun personality, take place outside (February in Florida = gorgeous), fun but not too cheesy for a bunch of 17-18 year olds and possibly a fire pit (because what teenagers don’t enjoy hangin in front of a bonfire?!) It took some brainstorming (and creativity from my better half) and the “Fiery Fiesta” was born.

As you can see, we had some fun decorating with “fiestaish” colors. Thank you so much to Jodi from Moo & Puppy for creating some awesome digital paper backgrounds so I could create the perfect party printables (food labels, cake topper, dessert table banner, napkin rings, birthday poster). Our top hits were mustaches on a stick, sombrero hats, and a “pepper” table. We displayed 8 different peppers with “hotness” ratings from lowest to highest (word of advice, supervise this table and have milk at hand). Food consisted of Moe’s southwest grill (perfect), homemade cake by my very own little niece Lizzy Baginski and a smore table. No fiesta party is complete without a Sombrero Dance, Taco Battle or Macho Nacho Contest. Top with a mocked up “photo booth,” pinata and a late night at the bonfire with smores . . .you can’t go wrong. Next time you are baffled on what to do for your teenager – throw them a fiesta! so fun!

And yup, the birthday girl was actually surprised! Happy Birthday to our amazing and beautiful Kasia. (I couldn’t get my little Amelia to look in this picture, she was a bit overstimulated by all the colors).

happily ever after . . . in pink & gold

My sister got married last March and I finally got some copies of her stunning wedding pictures!  What a gorgeous wedding.  Took place at the beautiful Avila Country Club in Tampa, FL.  Her colors were pink & gold, it was a simply classic fairytale of a wedding.  My little princess Adeline was one of the flower girls and I was still pregnant with Amelia.   Check out some of the beautiful details . . .

A family affair, we were ALL part of the wedding.  The bridesmaids consisted of all my nieces and sisters…imagine finding a bridesmaid dress that suits an age range from 13 – 30 something AND a pregnant one, well, she found it.

A beautiful and incredible couple.  My favorites – definitely the color scheme and flowers, cute gift bags for the kids (kept them occupied during the reception), the gold chairs, photo booth, cappuccino station, ribbon wands for send off.  Photography by the fabulous Stehlik Photography.

A sweet moment.  I had left the house early with Adeline to get ready at the ceremony site.  It was a crazy morning and I hadn’t seen James (also the best man) all day, until he caught up to me right before the start of the ceremony to check in.

Lizzy’s Cupcake Soiree

Right before the holidays I had the pleasure of getting talked into planning my sweet nieces 14th birthday party.  Lizzy loves baking and her specialty is cupcakes (and the girl can make some yummy cupcakes).  I combined her love of cupcakes with a teal, red, pink color themed cupcake soiree!

Lizzy’s favorite show is TLC’S “DC Cupcakes” and we surprised her with a dozen cupcakes from the show’s bakery – “Georgetown Cupcake.”  Yup, we had a dozen cupcakes shipped from Washington, D.C. and yes, it was definitely worth it.  They were wonderfully packaged and arrived in perfect condition (I was impressed) and so yummy.  It was definitely one of the main features of the party and a big highlight for Lizzy!  I made individual cupcake stands for these decadent treats and the girls later had a “guess what cupcake flavor” activity with 6 of them.

Our dessert table was filled with pink yogurt pretzels, sour patch cherries, cookies and cupcakes from our local grocery store, Georgetown Cupcakes and yummy peanut butter fudge cupcakes made by Lizzy herself (these were also provided as boxed take home favors).  The girls had a blast with the cupcake tasting contest, a scavenger hunt and making their own felt flower clips (this was a huge hit – I just provided them with a hot clue gun, a variety of felt squares, alligator clips and some inspiration pics found online).

Keep Calm and Eat a Cupcake poster is from Poster Pop. Paper striped straws and cupcake paper lines are from Dime Store Buddy.  We used circular lanterns (from Just Artifcats) in different sizes to decorate the dessert table and other areas throughout the house.

All the party printables (cupcake toppers, food labels, birthday sign) were created by me using the adorable digital paper designs from Moo & Puppy.

Don’t you just feel like having a cupcake now??!

“Pretty in Pink” First Birthday Bash

AND – she’s one! Crazy, I can’t believe how quickly it came. We celebrated with the the big “first” birthday celebration with friends and family. I love to plan a good party so this was way too much fun for me.   I had some great help from my amazing sister (Angelica) and was able to try out some craft skills during nap times.  The results = a fabulous “Pretty in Pink” First Birthday Bash!

What we did? Well, we found a great park shelter with more than enough tables and LOTS of room to run around for all of Adeline’s little friends. We put out some hula hoops, pink balls and bubbles for the kids to play out on the grass. We rented an inflatable bouncy and my niece brought her pet bunny. Since it was close to Easter we had a little Easter egg hunt. Party was held during lunch time so we grilled out with some burgers and hot dogs topped off with cake and fun treats for dessert!

“Do it myself” projects:

  • Fabric pennants – added a nice personal touch and can be used over (my first attempt on a sewing machine and I was pleasantly surprised at my sense of accomplishment with this device)
  • Hanging tissue paper poms (in different shades of pink)
  • Favor bags – created personal thank you tags, printed on mailing labels and affixed to pink bags
  • Center pieces – tulips or carnations in mason jars
  • “Happy 1st Birthday” Sign made out of scrapbook cardstock, printed letters and ribbon
  • Fun treats – decorated sugar cookies, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, marshmallows dipped in chocolate and pink sprinkles

Great finds:

It was a wonderful and memorable party.  We had just as much fun as our sweet, little Adeline!
